  1. In English this week we did answering questions about the different book covers of The Boy In The Stripped Pyjamas eg Why is the Colours on the front cover dull? The Colours are dull because it makes it look worn out and old which represents the story.

  2. We have also been doing the History behind The Boy In The Stripped Pyjamas.
    When Adolf Hitler was Chancellor there was something called 'The Jew question'.The question was what were they going to do with the Jews in Europe because the Jews owned alot of shops and people thought they were sub-human as well as gay people, cripled people and blonde hair and blue eyes people.
    'The Solution' was that they would kill all these people.They captured them and sent them to consentration camps.They would either kill the people that were unable to wirk when they arrived at the camp.They would gas the carriage they were in and then cramate the bodies. The other people that could work were sent into the consentration camps to work.They would also die from being murdered, illnes or too much hard labour.They would also be used for scientific experiments that they would not do to normal people because they were so horrible.

  3. We also have to have pick a wide raeding book to read for the term and then do a speech about it.I think i might read the first cherub book again becasue it has alot to write about and i wouldnt have to read a new book.

  4. This week in English we hvae been answering questions about the book, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. We were given a sheet with questions about the chapter or chapters that we have just read.I dont really like it musch, its pretty boring.

  5. This week we also read our Wide reading books on Friday, but i forgot my book and it was on loan at the Library so i just read The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.

  6. We were also given a sheet with spelling words on it for every second week.Next week is the first test and to study for it we had to write the definition for the word and a sentecne using the word.

    2. You then do 3 or more quotes from the book , to back up your statement/ argument.

    Week 3
    Agile:
    Sentence: “Wow, Jan is so agile whilst playing sport, she just dodged three players at once and then scored a goal!” Matthew said.
    Definition: Agile means able to move quickly and easily

    Allegiance:
    Sentence: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America”!
    Definition: Allegiance means loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior or of an individual to a group or cause.

    Anti – Semitism:
    Sentence: Anti – Semitism is the reason thousands of Jews were killed in World War II.
    Definition: Anti - Semitism means the intense dislike for and prejudice against Jewish people.





    Apologise:
    Sentence: My friends say that I apologise too much, even when it isn’t me that should be apologising.
    Definition: Apologise means defend, explain, clear away, or make excuses for by reasoning.

    Appalled:
    Sentence: I am appalled by the way she acted, she shouldn’t have told her teacher to be quiet!
    Definition: Appalled means greatly dismay or horrify.

    Appreciatively:
    Sentence: She worked very appreciatively at her new job, which is surprising, considering that it didn’t take much effort to get.
    Definition: Appreciatively means with appreciation; in a grateful manner.

    Auschwitz:
    Sentence: Auschwitz is mentioned in the book we are reading at school. The boy in the book, named Bruno, lives next to Auschwitz.
    Definition: Auschwitz was a Nazi concentration camp in World War II, near the town of Oświęcim (Auschwitz) in Poland.


    Berserk:
    Sentence: My friend lost her ballet bag full of all her expensive ballet shoes and tutus. Her mother went berserk.
    Definition: Berserk means out of control with anger or excitement; wild or frenzied.

    Boisterous:
    Sentence: The crowd at the Sydney Swans football game was very boisterous, they cheered non-stop.
    Definition: Boisterous means noisy, energetic, and cheerful; rowdy.

    Brutality:
    Sentence: Some people in this world get treated with extreme brutality, it’s not right; everybody should be equal and get treated with the same amount of respect!
    Definition: Brutality means ferociousness: the trait of extreme cruelty.

    Cautiously:
    Sentence: When you are a spy, working on a mission, it is key to work quietly and cautiously or else you might get caught out and fail your mission.
    Definition: Cautiously means with caution or prudence or tact.

    Clothes:
    Sentence: Lots of people, especially girls, love going shopping for clothes.
    Definition: Clothes are items worn to cover the body.

    Cloths:
    Sentence: If you use cloths to clean your house make sure you wash them out because they are probably dirty and will smell.
    Definition: Cloths are woven or felted fabric made from wool, cotton, or other fibre.

    Commute:
    Sentence: I commute every week day from Pymble to Belrose on the school bus.
    Definition: Commute means to travel some distance between one's home and place of work on a regular basis.
    Comprise:
    Sentence: A well-functioning family will comprise of love, peace, contentment, stability, kindness and forgiveness.
    Definition: Comprise means consist of; be made up of.



    Concession:
    Sentence: She had concession tickets to the show because she was disabled.
    Definition: Concession means a thing that is granted, esp. in response to demands; a thing conceded

    Conscious:
    Sentence: Luckily she was conscious, after falling off an abseiling cliff at her school camp.
    Definition: Conscious means aware of and responding to one's surroundings; awake.

    Conglomerate:
    Sentence: conglomerate rock was so amazing with its different layers and colours.
    Definition: Conglomerate means to form or gather into a mass or whole

    Cooperative:
    Sentence: To win the championship we need to be a cooperative team.
    Definition: Cooperative means involving mutual assistance in working toward a common goal.


    Colourful:
    Sentence: Her shirt is very colourful because she tie-died it nine different colours!
    Colourful: Colourful means striking in variety and interest.

    Introduction
    Macro - Thesis ( statement sentece)

    Body Paragraphs
    Micro - Theses

    Conclusion


    The question : Do dogs or cats make better housepets?
    The statement: Cats
    Macro - Thesis: Cats make better houspets that dogs
    Micro - Theses: They are quieter, they dont make mess and they like to be cuddled.

  16. So far this week we have still been working on how to write essay's.

    First off we studied how to write an INTRODUCTION:
    You starte the paragraph off with a quote or phrase or rehtorical question.
    You then state your MACRO - THESIS.
    Following with your MICRO - THESES.
    If you want you can it with another rehtorical question or statement.


    We then learnt how to write the BODY PARAGRAPHS:
    S - state
    E - Explain
    I - Illustrate
    R - Re - State

    S - State
    The first sentence in your body paragraph has to state the point on what the paragraph is going to be about.

    E - Explain
    You then explain your meaning behind the first sesntence and give examples.

    I - Illustarte
    You then go deeper into what you have stated and paint a picture for the audience in their heads giving examples.

    Re - State
    You then go back to what you have said in teh begining of the paragraph to sum it all up and tie it with a bow!

  17. This week we also worked on how to write conclusions and then we put the whole essay together on the topic of our chose.

    CONCLUSION:
    In a conlcusion you re - state all the points you talked about without adding any new arguments.

  18. On friday we started reading our autobiographies for the homework task which is a 300 word essay about the book of our chose.
    I started reading the book about the girl called Joni who dived int eh water and is now parapleagic but i dont know if i will do that book!?
